Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Gather and evaluate information to assist in the production of research profiles.
Manage profiles and other donor information on the database.
Assist with the administration of the membership scheme, including: mail merges, compiling documents, updating forms, the printing of membership cards and other office duties, including the processing of returned mail and managing the stock for membership merchandise.
Support the planning of the regular fundraising prize draws programme.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my Development Assistant Apprentice programme to a great extent. It has provided me with valuable hands-on experience within the fundraising and development team while allowing me to build a strong understanding of how a major cultural organisation like the Royal Ballet and Opera operates. I particularly appreciate the variety of tasks, the opportunity to develop practical skills and the support from colleagues which has helped me grow both professionally and personally. Overall, the programme has been engaging, rewarding and well aligned with my career aspirations within the arts and charity sector.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I have learnt several new skills and further developed existing ones throughout my programme. I have gained confidence in taking calls and communicating professionally with donors and members of the public which has improved my interpersonal and customer service skills. I have also developed my ability to use and manage databases including accurately inputting and updating records, handling donor information and supporting data-related tasks. In addition, I have strengthened my research skills by gathering information on prospects, donors and projects to support development activities. Overall, these experiences have helped me build a strong foundation in administrative, communication and research skills within a fundraising environment.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well organised and clearly structured. From the start, I was given a clear overview of my role, responsibilities, and learning objectives, which helped me understand what was expected of me. Tasks and projects are planned effectively, with appropriate guidance and support from the team, and there is a good balance between day‑to‑day responsibilities and learning opportunities. Regular check‑ins and feedback have also helped me track my progress and stay on course. Overall, the structure of the programme has made it easy to develop skills, build confidence and feel supported throughout the apprenticeship.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a good level of support from my employer throughout the programme. My manager and colleagues are approachable and willing to offer guidance whenever needed, particularly when I am learning new tasks or developing unfamiliar skills. I am given clear instructions, constructive feedback and the opportunity to ask questions, which has helped me build confidence in my role. There is also ongoing support in terms of training and regular check-ins to discuss progress and development. Overall, I feel well supported and encouraged to learn and grow within the organisation.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a good level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. They provide clear guidance on coursework and assessments as well as regular check‑ins to discuss my progress and any challenges I may be facing. Tutors are responsive and available to offer clarification or additional support when needed, which has helped me stay on track. The structured learning materials and feedback have been particularly helpful in supporting my understanding and development throughout the qualification.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that my qualification supports me well in performing my role more effectively. The learning from my training provider helps reinforce the practical skills I use day to day, such as communication, organisation, professionalism and working with data. It has also helped me better understand workplace expectations and best practices, which I can directly apply in my role as a Development Assistant Apprentice. Overall, the qualification complements my on‑the‑job learning and has helped me feel more confident and capable in my role.
