Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I work as a Senior Officer in Legal and Regulatory Change within Group Regulatory & Compliance, where I focus on co‑ordinating and delivering firm‑wide legal and regulatory change. On a day‑to‑day basis, this involves horizon scanning for regulatory developments, assessing their impact on the business, project‑managing implementation and governance activities, maintaining audit readiness, and acting as a central point of contact between the General Counsel team, subject‑matter experts and wider stakeholders to ensure changes are clearly understood, tracked and embedded into business‑as‑usual.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I enjoyed my apprenticeship programme to a large extent. While it was demanding at times -particularly balancing work alongside the assessments - it was genuinely rewarding, built my confidence, strengthened my project and stakeholder‑management skills, and gave me practical experience that I applied directly in my day‑to‑day role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes - I’ve both learnt new skills and significantly developed existing ones. The apprenticeship strengthened my project management capability, particularly planning, risk management and stakeholder engagement, and helped me become more confident in leading workstreams independently. I also developed stronger communication and presentation skills, improved my ability to translate complex regulatory change into practical actions, and deepened my analytical and reflective skills through structured learning and assessment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
Overall, the programme was well organised and clearly structured. There was a clear framework for learning, assessments and support, with logical progression through the modules and regular milestones that helped keep me on track. While it required good personal organisation alongside work commitments, the structure made expectations clear and supported steady development throughout the programme.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer. This includes regular guidance and encouragement from my manager, access to learning time and resources, and flexibility to balance apprenticeship requirements alongside my role. I also felt supported through practical check‑ins, feedback, and reassurance - particularly around assessments - which made a real difference to my confidence and overall experience on the programme.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I receive a strong level of support from my training provider throughout working towards my qualification. This includes clear guidance on programme requirements, accessible tutors for questions or reassurance, structured learning materials, and timely feedback on assessments, all of which helped me stay focused, confident, and supported at each stage of the apprenticeship.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I feel the qualification has helped me perform better in my role to a great extent. The learning is directly applicable to my day‑to‑day work, particularly in how I plan and manage work, engage stakeholders, manage risk, and reflect on delivery. It’s helped me work more confidently and independently, take a more structured and professional approach to complex regulatory change, and better articulate my thinking and decisions when working with senior stakeholders.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are a range of extra‑curricular opportunities to get involved in at work. These include social and team activities, wellbeing initiatives, and opportunities to connect through professional and internal networking events. I’ve found there is encouragement to get involved beyond day‑to‑day work, which helps build relationships across teams and supports both personal and professional development.

My main advice would be to be yourself and show a genuine interest in Irwin Mitchell’s values and culture, as they really are reflected in day‑to‑day working life.
