Learning the ins and outs of becoming an outdoor activity instructor, outdoor learning, classroom work. Work around the centre to help keep it running smoothly. Taking and leading sessions once qualified.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It was hard work, but I’m a little bit older.. lol
Met some great folk along the way, who I’m still friends with now.
Got some good qualifications and learnt a lot. A few more weekends off would have been nice.

I was a complete novice and I now have some good skills and qualifications - so a lot gained.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Some areas were really good, some could have been improved. I always shared my thoughts and hopefully that had a useful impact, and everyone is always learning and trying to improve.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Good support, I was listened too.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Support was good, even though a bit delayed in starting a few things, I had extra work to do, which I was aware of and once it got going, everyone was helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It gave you the direction and knowledge to go out and instruct, planning and prep are essential for a good session and we deep dived into this in the classroom and taking practice sessions.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Lots to do, lots of good people and lovely area to work and train.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mendip Adventure?
Get used to working weekends, working in all weathers, long days at times and forgetting what day it is…. I said I wouldn’t forget…. But I did…. lol!
There are some really good people up there and as long as you apply yourself, are willing to learn, adapt and overcome you will genuinely enjoy work most of the time.
You’ll make some great friends and learn a lot about centre life. It beats a normal 9-5 that’s for sure!
