Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves working within a team to coordinate water system designs for a large range of buildings and constructions. Using different design technologies and skills to produce deliverables. I also get involved with lots of different learning pathways to constantly improve my technical and theoretical knowledge.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the large variety of projects and building types that I get to work on, they provide interesting and challenging work. I also have a very supportive team and network of people surrounding me, at the heart of which is the development and progression of staff and colleagues within Arup.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Lots, as an apprentice my job is to learn. I am constantly experiencing new learning from a wide variety of projects. Through university and practical working experience I am constantly developing new skills which I can then put straight back into practice in my work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
From the company side it is very clear progression and development, however the university side definitely lacks some key aspects in the course.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Arup is very well supported by staff and colleagues
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
LJMU has support for students, however I don't always feel it is well targeted to degree apprenticeships, with extra lectures and learning times etc being during working hours.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My course provides me with some theoretical knowledge towards my workplace learning, however I definitely feel I learn more in the workplace. Often the course information is outdated or not reflective of the work place practices.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Lots! Arup is very sociable, team events, pub quizzes, staff competitions etc
