My role involves telephony, admin tasks such as processing financial assessments, printing/post and supporting other teams with small tasks that they might not necessarily have time for.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

One of my favourite things about my role is being part of making a difference in people’s lives, through the development of my communication skills and active listening skills. I have also learnt how to utilise different programs and software that I wasn't familiar with before.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

We have bi-monthly lessons and the induction received at the beginning is also very useful. We also have access to different events that we can attend as part of our off-the-job training.

My tutor is very helpful and patient and is able to guide as well as encourage me.

I think I have learnt a wide range of skills that I can take forward in a permanent role, as well as experience to help me feel more comfortable.

I feel supported and empowered to learn and grow individually. Both in and outside of my working environment.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Medway Council?
Being yourself, acknowledging that no one is perfect and there is always something to work on. Also, remaining professional when required but being able to relax and "have a laugh".
