Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a daily basis, I attend site meetings, help assess and process subcontractor payments, and speak with the project manager about orders and site requirements. I also communicate with groundworkers to make sure they have the materials they need, helping keep the project running smoothly and within budget.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the apprenticeship programme because BAM provide strong support, especially for people who are new to the role. They are welcoming to newcomers, which made it easier for me to settle in and build confidence in my work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed new Excel skills and gained a better understanding of construction, particularly within railway projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme set out by BAM is well thought through, as it allows us to balance both our education and time on site. This helps me apply what I learn in a real working environment, improving my understanding of the role.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We receive a good level of support, as everyone has their own line manager who provides guidance and helps with our development throughout being on site. During collage the teachers are also very helpful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We receive a good amount of support when working towards qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that my qualification through my training provider helps me perform better in my role, as it gives me a better understanding of construction processes and commercial work. I can apply what I learn to my day-to-day tasks on site, which improves my knowledge and confidence.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, when the sun isn't out people from site play padel. If it is a nice day we have a round of golf.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend a friend to join because they provide strong support for apprentices and create a welcoming environment for new starters. The balance between site experience and education helps you develop practical skills quickly, and you’re given real responsibility early on
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
show a willingness to learn and be open to working both on site and in the office. It’s important to ask questions, take initiative, and not be afraid to get involved in different tasks. Being organised and communicating well with the team also helps you settle in and make the most of the apprenticeship.
