Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As an Apprentice Paralegal, I sit in the corporate paralegal team. This means that day-to-day, I assist corporate lawyers with legal tasks such as drafting documents, reviewing documents, legal research, proofreading, and compiling documents for completion. I complete this work 4 days a week and I have a dedicated study day 1 day a week. During this day I take part in University lectures and a number of related tasks to work through, usually along with an assignment.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
The programme is very enjoyable. There is lots of opportunities involved to work on interesting and varied legal matters, with no day being the same. The highlight of the programme is how much I have learnt, both on the study side and work side.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have learnt and developed many skills during the apprenticeship. As the premise of the programme is to learn new things, there is definitely a lot of room to grow and improve. To name a few, I have definitely learnt the skill of professionalism as I am in a professional office setting 4 days a week. This also translates to email etiquette and networking skills. More work focused, I have definitely developed my attention to detail skills as I often have to review complex legal documents to spot minor errors.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
The necessary amount of support is provided by my employer. There are regular calls in place with my manager as well as the early talent team. These are set up to discuss my progress and how I am getting on with the apprenticeship.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
We have an assigned skills coach from the training provider who also sets up regular calls to discuss how we are progressing on the course. I am also able to contact them with any questions. The information we receive from the University on a weekly basis allows us to stay on track with studies.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
It teaches skills that are valuable to my role, such as client care, office skills, digital skills, and the actual legal content. It supports both the more technical side of the role with learning about different software and how to interact with clients, but also supports the legal work I do as I am constantly learning new legislation and how the law works.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There are many different extra-curricular activities to get involved in. There are dedicated committees we are encouraged to join that help with organising frequent social activities. This means that we take part in many team socials which are a great opportunity to bond with colleagues. There are also initiatives based in sports, with a 5 a side football team and the introduction of weekly pilates classes. The firm also organises networking events which are a great way to meet new people and practice social skills.
