Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As I am in the second year of my apprenticeship, I spend one day a week in college on the Oxford site working towards my foundation degree. The other 4 days I am working in placement, where I have just spent the last 3 months in a planning role, spending a lot of time working with data for different areas of the business. Placement last 3 months ensuring you have plenty of different opportunities throughout the business.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme and I'm very glad I got the opportunity to do an apprenticeship over going to university. I have lots of hands on learning working in a real engineering environment with experienced colleagues from all different departments with different responsibilities, giving me plenty of opportunities to expand my knowledge daily.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt lots of new skills throughout the apprenticeship. In college in the first year, we spent a lot of time in the workshop learning physical skills such as welding, milling & turning, electrical and more - all skills which I would never have gained a basic knowledge of otherwise. In the work environment, I have developed a lot of technical skills using software such as Microsoft Access, Visio and Excel as well as some specialist software's too.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The apprenticeship is very structured, with everyone knowing from the interviews the rough plan year on year. From the first year spending the majority of the time in college & one day working on the foundation degree, second year and third year with 4 days in placement and 1 day in college for FD or University for degree, respectively. There is excellent communication regarding what's going on and any meetings, or updates required.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We get a range of support from our employer, in all different forms. Be it the training advisor, placement manager, HR, or any other associate on site everybody is always happy to listen and help out in any way possible with what you need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Support is not always as expected from the college side - it has improved when speaking to our employer about it - but overall the support comes from them more than the training provider. Some tutors are very good at their support and teaching.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The content we are learning for the qualification can be very helpful to the work environment. One of the tutors bases all of the teaching around the BMW Group procedures, and he has previous manufacturing experience from a previous role supplying them. A lot of information learned can be applied to the work environment.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are plenty of extra curricular actitivies at work to get involved with. From Apprentice lead teams such as the newsletter, charity champions, and SharePoint teams to events throughout the year such as family days, football games and summer events. There are loads of opportunities to go to schools/colleges to speak about apprenticeships and network also.

There are plenty of opportunities for progression during and beyond the apprenticeship. It is an excellent apprenticeship giving excellent benefit in a fast paced manufacturing environment with very competitive benefits.
