Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I work as a software engineer in Cash Management and Payments. Day to day, my role involves investigating issues with large‑value payments, understanding what has gone wrong, and fixing problems to make sure payments are processed correctly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The programme itself is very good. What lets it down is the training provider. Coming from a computer science background, I find the training quite basic and often inadequate. Although the slides are okay, the delivery is poor, and the online format makes it hard to stay engaged. However, I love Lloyds, every one is so friendly and wants to help you, which makes the process that much easier.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
One key skill I have developed is my communication. When I first started, I was quite shy and reserved, but working in a professional environment has taught me that if you don’t speak up, opportunities can be missed. As a result, my confidence has grown significantly. I have also developed perseverance, learning to keep pushing forward even when tasks become challenging.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The team I was placed into has unfortunately had limited time to support me due to various circumstances. Speaking to other apprentices, I’ve found their experiences have often been very different, which makes me believe this is more of a person‑to‑person or team‑to‑team issue. While the organisation has structure overall, the way apprentices are placed into teams feels flawed, and it can often come down to luck whether you end up in a team with the capacity to support an apprentice properly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
While there is support available, I often feel that apprentices are left to fend for themselves. This is largely because many people don’t fully understand what an apprentice role involves or how limited our experience can be. In my case particularly, support has been more limited, although I recognise other apprentices have had very different experiences. This seems heavily dependent on which team you’re placed into, and getting the right team can make a significant difference.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
I’ve mentioned this previously, but I’m not particularly fond of the training provider. That said, I do appreciate my coach — he’s very understanding and genuinely tries to push things forward where he can. My main issue isn’t with the coaching support, but with the quality and effectiveness of the training itself.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
While some of the skills covered are transferable, I feel that the sessions are largely a poor use of time. The content is very generic and often has little relevance to my role, particularly as it does not cover the programming language used within my team. Although useful principles are occasionally touched upon, the overall delivery is extremely poor and limits the value of the sessions.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, I am actually the facilitator of such events and I do hope to get alot more events going.
