Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an apprentice Site Reliability Engineer, I support the day‑to‑day reliability of services by working alongside experienced engineers on live operational tasks. I regularly monitor system health using dashboards, respond to alerts by following runbooks, and help investigate incidents to understand what went wrong and why. Alongside this, I contribute to improving documentation, reducing manual toil through automation, and learning how observability, resilience, and reliability are designed into systems. The role gives me hands‑on exposure to real production environments while helping me build strong engineering and problem‑solving skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I'm enjoying it thorougly.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have both learnt new skills and developed existing skills, they encourage a learning environment for all colleagues regardless of whether they are apprentices or not.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Alongside my learning provider, BPP, I can safely say the programme is very well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive support from my employer in numerous ways, and am encouraged to get involved in certain things they offer for wellbeing or for inclusivity purposes. It's a really nice and blameless environment.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
It could be better, however the support I receive is adequate. There is some sentiments across the rest of the apprentice cohort as to how this could be bettered, but our learning provider gives out forms for their students to share their perspectives on. Because of this, I really can't complain about it too much.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It's helped me out in certain aspects, however I must admit that my role and my qualification are not the same. The duties of an SRE and what is expected from a software engineer are different. I make up for these changes by allocating some of my OTJ hours to learning and developing skills related to SRE practices.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a multitude of extra-curricular activities to get involved with, however it may be location specific. My experience with it has been spectacular.
