Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a human resources apprentice, I do different rotations every two months to get a grasp of the wider People function. Depending on the rotation my day looks very different, I also am working towards a Level 3 CIPD qualification which I take one study day a week for.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme as it allows me to experience a lot of different sides of the People team, while also working towards a valuable qualification.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many different skills throughout my apprenticeship, this comes through me completing several different rotations. For example I did an People Services rotation where I learnt a lot of the organisations procedures and policies and supported with admin tasks.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well structured, it allows me to get a wide experience of different sub sections of the people team. Well planned where I know where I will be going and when. With clear objectives that allow me to develop
How much support do you receive from your employer?

A lot, I have regular check ins with both my line manager and who I am in rotation with, I have no doubt if I did have any concerns/issues I would be supported by both the people and organisation.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

A lot, every 3 weeks I attend a workshop where my coursework is discussed and made clear what is expected of me. I also have access to a wide range of materials to help me with my assignments
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The training has been helpful in both the task I have to complete as often we will discuss something I am yet to have done, but also it allows me to reflect on what I have done so far and potential areas for development. It's also helpful to see what my cohort are working on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are a lot of sports teams, activities etc, I do not attend any but I know they exist and are easily accessed.

Would you recommend National Gas to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a good place to start your career, as they take your development very serious and have a great team to support you from day one. It also allows you to work for an organisation which has a real-life impact and it feels good to see your work contributing to a wider purpose
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Gas?
Research the role and the organisation as well as the Gas industry, regardless of the role it is helpful to understand how you support the organisation's purpose. Try to speak with passion and confidence as these are traits that are valued at National Gas and shine during the recruitment process.
