Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role on a daily basis involves working with the nurses and other professionals. i work closely to support patients with various things such as feeding, personal hygiene and mobility. I update the cleaner on a regular basis to add patients' urine, food chart and stool. I will make sure to check the stock cupboard. I carry out property disclaimer form, help with serving patients meals and keeping the environment clean.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

This programme I have enjoyed to a great extent as it has provided me with helpful assistance and support from the team. It has helped me to achieve my goal and meet my goals by learning on the job while having lots of training days and great support from both of these services.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills as a healthcare support worker, which have been effective and beneficial to this role. This includes communication with patients, their family, my colleagues and other professionals. I have learnt about the importance of keeping patent records up to date and being observant when doing assessments. I have learnt how fast a patient can deteriorate, and the quick steps needed to save lives. I have learnt the importance of time managing and great team work, which makes the roles easier and manageable. I have improved on my empathy, working under pressure and remaining calm in situations.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well organised/structured as it is clearly planned and guided. it has an easy and simple guide to show what is needed to achieve your target. The expectations are shown, communicated and explained on a regular basis. There is lots of support available face to face, 1-1 and group task. It starts simple and builds its way up, which helps you to understand the tasks and balance work and life.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have received a high level of support from my employer from the beginning of the programme through to the end. My employer has done 1–1 sessions with me, probation and tripartite meeting here the opportunity always arises for us to talk. We will look at strength and room for improvement. There are also ways to give more time to complete tasks or to shadow my colleagues to improve my knowledge and skills. There is regular training and lots of resources that are needed to do this effectively.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have received great support from my training provider while working towards my qualification. They have taken the time to communicate with me what is expected at every step of the way. They have done one session with me face to face and online when I need it. There is always feedback and monthly meetings while providing training days twice per month in which they are available to help with task. They provide clear guidance and regular check-in and this has helped me to achieve my qualification in a manageable time, which has helped my experience.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel my qualification has helped me to perform better in my role as it has improved my knowledge and skills about my roles and responsibility. It has enhanced my understanding of patient care, improves communication and builds confidence in carrying patients out task independently while supporting patents which has a positive impact of the care I provide.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are various extracurricular activities involved, such as team building nights out, fashion shows, bringing a dish to celebrate colleagues.

I would recommend the NHS to a friend as it has lots of opportunities. You can develop and build on your skills and excel in learning and growing. It has lots of support and steps to achieve your goal. The jobs are rewarding, and they have a positive impact on patients' daily lives.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust?
My advice and tips would be that you must be willing to work hard and ready to provide the best care for patients and their families. You must be determined, show empathy and have great communication skills. You must be patient, willing to learn and can work in a team with built agency. You should be flexible and willing to learn from your mistake and be accountable. You should be open to learning and can work in a fast-paced environment.
