Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Completing the target board using Power-bi for all colleagues ensuring I make everyone aware of their month and year target left to do's. Welcoming customers into the shop, building rapport, finding what they need and receive a 5 star review. Admin includes checking tickets and paperwork and sending them to customers, making amendments, checking costings and direct debit schedules.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Developed customer service skills, built my confidence and expanded by knowledge on geography, history and which destinations are best for different customer needs.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Training sector was great, no faults on that. Near the end in EPA I feel as the communication could have been lots better (Mostly between ICQ and Hays then relaying info back to me).
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Manager's support has been incredible aswell as from my L&D coach.
I think support from higher ubove has not been as good, for example, after my apprenticeship my L&D coach and Manager encouraged me to apply for rising stars. After i applied i received a call from my RSM who in brief said too many people have applied so my name won't even be bought forward for discussion and maybe i should think about applying for the mentor programme instead as it is less work. Which obviously made me feel as though my potential is not being prioritized in a company who seem to be so eager for young people's success. As a result of this I know my position in branch will stay the same untill next year when i can apply again, which is not what i wanted. I want to grow and learn in my role, i love selling but i also want to evolve and climb roles. I feel i was not given a fair chance to show my potential.

At the start i learnt more when i was in store seeing the systems and customer service conversations happen in real life while shadowing my colleagues.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

In the whole time i was an apprentice i was never allowed to go to any supplier events because all the ones i could have gone to were hosted in bars/clubs which were 18+, and i was only 16/17. Even the regional Christmas party i couldn't go to as i was too young (hosted in clubs).

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Hays Travel to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Only if i knew the programme would suit them, I have had a fabulous time working with my colleagues in store and couldn't fault my store at all. However the apprentice programme i would only recommend if i thought the person was determined enough to complete all BUD activities on time and to ensure their EPA work was excellent.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hays Travel?
Your L&D coach is there for a reason, use them, because they will always support you and be in your corner.
