Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
As an Apprentice Travel Consultant at Hays Travel, my role involved assisting customers with planning and booking their holidays while developing my knowledge of the travel industry. My responsibilities included building rapport with customers, identifying their needs through effective questioning, researching and recommending suitable holidays, processing bookings, handling payments, and providing excellent customer service both face-to-face and over the phone. I also supported the branch with administrative tasks, maintained product knowledge through training, and ensured all bookings complied with company procedures and industry regulations. This role allowed me to develop strong communication, sales, and customer service skills while working towards my apprenticeship qualification

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
I enjoyed the programme, i loved training and liked being in branch talking to customers and booking their dream holidays. training was a great place to make friends with people doing the same thing as you across the whole company

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

4/5
Yes, throughout my apprenticeship I have developed a range of new skills and strengthened existing ones. I have improved my communication and customer service skills by interacting with customers daily, both face-to-face and over the phone. I have developed my sales skills by identifying customer needs, matching them to suitable products, and confidently discussing features and benefits to bring holidays to life. I have also improved my product knowledge of destinations, airlines, cruise lines, and travel products, enabling me to make informed recommendations. In addition, I have enhanced my organisation and time management skills by balancing customer enquiries, bookings, administrative tasks, and apprenticeship work, while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

3/5
I will say that I was slightly let down by this because over the 18 months of my apprenticeship I had 3 different trainers instead of only 1. My last trainer was fantastic and really supported me in every way he could with the programme and my work. We had a system called bud that we did all of our coursework on, this was a good organised system.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5
My trainer supported me very well, helped me with work when i needed and extended deadlines when needed, manager gave me time upstairs away from desk to catch up on coursework sometimes.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
He was brilliant, he was great in the training sessions as he made them fun and also ensured that what we had spoken about stuck, even in branch constant check ins on teams to see how im getting on with coursework

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I feel very confident in what i do in branch from destination knowledge to systems as we have had training sessions on everything we would need to do or use in the job role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

4/5
not that im aware of, we just have supplier events where suppliers come and talk to us about new exciting things happening within the industry
