Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I’m currently an Apprentice Business Analyst within the Business Analysis team at TfL, completing the first of three placements as part of the 18‑month BA Apprenticeship Scheme. My role focuses on supporting the delivery of change by helping teams understand business problems, capture customer and stakeholder needs, and translate these into clear, structured requirements.
On a day‑to‑day basis, I work closely with stakeholders, project teams, and more experienced Business Analysts to support projects at different stages of the delivery lifecycle. This includes helping to understand and document user and business needs, map and analyse business processes, and produce clear, high‑quality requirements using TfL standards and tools such as Jama. I also attend project meetings, workshops, and stakeholder sessions to support discussions, capture actions, and follow up on requirements-related activities.
As part of the BA team, I’m gaining hands‑on experience of how Business Analysts act as the link between the business and delivery teams, supporting projects from early ideas through to delivery and handover into business‑as‑usual. Alongside my placement work, I’m studying towards the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis, with support from my learning coach and mentoring within the team, which helps me apply theoretical knowledge directly to real projects at TfL.
The apprenticeship structure allows me to rotate across Tech & Data and the wider business, giving me exposure to different domains and ways of working, and helping me build a strong foundation in core Business Analysis skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy this scheme!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I’ve built new skills in requirements writing, process mapping, and using BA tools, while also developing my existing skills in stakeholder communication, problem‑solving, and working within project teams. I’ve particularly grown in understanding how Business Analysts support projects from early discovery through to delivery by applying structured analysis techniques in a real work environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well organised and structured. It has a clear framework with defined placements, regular support from my line manager, placement managers, and learning coach, and aligned academic learning through the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis. The combination of on‑the‑job experience, rotations across different areas of the business, and structured reviews helps ensure consistent development and clarity around expectations and progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I am very well supported and not hesitant to ask for any assistance, if there is a need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Constant feedback and support is given and never left feeling unsure or uncertain in my learning.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification supports my role very well. The learning from my training provider is closely aligned to what I do day to day as a Business Analyst, covering all areas of the role. This helps me better understand the why behind the tasks I’m doing and apply recognised BA techniques more confidently and effectively in real project work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are numerous amounts of social activities, sports teams and professional networking events. Every other day there is a dozen things going on within these network groups.
