Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My day usually starts with a stand-up meeting with the team to discuss what everyone is working and raise any issues/blockers. I will then pick up or work on my existing ticket, which can involve a wide variety of tasks including analysis, coding, testing, documentation, raising change requests, implementations etc. Throughout the day I will have various team meetings, including 1 to 1s and all hands meetings.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoyed the apprenticeship, I was working independently within the team with good mentors and helpful people. The tasks assigned to me were of a good difficulty, which challenged me but didn't leave me feeling overwhelmed or not knowing what to do. The early careers network was really good, I really enjoyed the various team/skill building events they put on and it was a strong community feel, with regular socials and people in the same boat.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I feel like the apprenticeship really accelerated my coding and problem solving skills, and I would not know as much if I had just completed a degree without the practical element. Working day to day in a team really helped to practise skills and gain understanding of business processes/workflows in a welcoming environment where I could ask questions.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My apprenticeship worked through block release where we had a 2-week long teaching week at uni each term and then had assignments to take away and complete in 7 weeks. During that time we had our 20% off the job training which we used as Fridays where we were not expected to work but rather dedicate that time to completing the university coursework. I found sometimes the early careers events clashed with uni blocks/days so we would sometimes end up missing out on these.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My team and manager were very supportive of my apprenticeship, doing whatever they could to assist with my learning. They would even arrange meetings with other departments/subject experts in the business more tailored to the module I was studying e.g risk, project management etc so that I could learn the company processes behind these.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider gave a lot of support sessions, particularly in my final year project, with workshops and advice sessions on dissertation writing and presenting. However, sometimes I found communication was limited between the study blocks.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
There were a lot of elements especially in software engineering modules that I found useful, often times I had already done something similar at work so it was a way to keep working on my skills. The course was quite broad, covering a lot of project and risk management content which didn't directly link to my role but was good to have an understanding of. There were parts of the course, especially the software design elements that I found outdated and didn't link very well with how we do things at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are regular socials hosted either by individual teams or the wider early careers committee. In the past I have done an escape room, roller skating, quiz nights etc. There is a weekly lunchtime fitness session hosted outside by the office and also a yoga club. We were also welcome to join any university events/societies however I found these would often clash with working hours.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Experian to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I find it a positive/supportive working environment with good people and a big sense of community. I have found the career progression post apprenticeship to be good and enjoy the flexibility of the company, from hybrid working to paid volunteering days.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Experian?
Don't worry too much about technical knowledge/abilities. For apprenticeships the recruiters know you are a school leaver who won't know everything, they mainly value your personality, willingness to learn and how well you can work with others.
