Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work as a Data Management Manager, with responsibility for improving how data is governed, managed and used across the organisation. On a day‑to‑day basis, this involves working closely with senior stakeholders, data owners and delivery teams to define data requirements, oversee data quality and risk management activities, and ensure data is fit for regulatory and business use.
Alongside my permanent role, I'm working towards completing a Data apprenticeship, which allows me to formally build and evidence technical skills while continuing to deliver in role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the programme overall. It is challenging and requires commitment alongside a full‑time role, but it provides a very strong foundation for anyone looking to build or deepen a career in data. The learning is practical and can be applied directly to real work, which makes the effort feel worthwhile.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have both developed existing skills and learnt new ones. The programme strengthened my core data management skills, particularly around data governance, quality, and documentation, while also helping me formalise and deepen my technical understanding. It has also supported the development of softer skills such as structured problem‑solving, stakeholder communication, and applying data standards consistently across different contexts.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is fairly well structured, with a clear framework and defined learning outcomes. As someone completing it alongside a full‑time managerial role, it does require strong self‑organisation, but the structure provides a solid roadmap. The blend of formal learning, practical application and assessment works well overall, particularly when supported by good communication between the training provider and the business.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lloyds Banking Group is very supportive of the apprenticeship, particularly in allowing flexibility to meet learning and assessment requirements alongside a permanent role. There is understanding from managers around balancing delivery with development, and the organisation encourages continuous learning and upskilling through formal programmes like this.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from the training provider. They provide a clear framework for the qualification, access to learning resources, and structured guidance around assessments and evidence. Regular check‑ins help keep progress on track.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification supports my performance by reinforcing best practice and strengthening my technical and professional approach to data management. It helps link theory to real business activity, particularly around data analysis, data quality and structured ways of working. While I was already experienced in role, the qualification has helped me learn new skills and strengthen my knowledge, which adds value to both my day‑to‑day work and longer‑term career development.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are a range of extra‑curricular activities available. These include professional networking events, learning communities, and internal forums focused on development and inclusion, as well as social and wellbeing activities. There are opportunities to get involved beyond day‑to‑day work, depending on individual interests, which helps in making an impact in the communities around us and build connections.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Lloyds Banking Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes, I would recommend Lloyds Banking Group. It is a large organisation with a strong focus on learning, development and internal progression. There are meaningful opportunities to build a long‑term career, and the business actively supports upskilling through programmes such as apprenticeships for both new and existing employees. The work is varied and has real impact, particularly in strategic data and transformation roles.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lloyds Banking Group?
My advice would be to be clear about what motivates you and how your skills align with Lloyds Banking Group’s values and focus on development. The organisation offers a broad range of opportunities, so being open to learning, adaptable, and willing to work across different teams really helps. I would also recommend making the most of development opportunities, such as apprenticeships and internal learning programmes, as LBG genuinely supports long‑term career growth.
