Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
The job was advertised as software engineering, but the apprentice has 4 rotations, and only one of which actually has anything to do with it. But I’d still rate it at least 3 because the rotations, work, and people are all still great, and me and the other apprentices are settling in very well.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Better than was hoping for. If it was fully the job I signed up for I would’ve given a 5.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Learnt loads of new things and skills. First professional job, so I’ve been building my confidence strongly in communicating within teams and knowing how to navigate the workplace in general.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The work I get is just what my rotation lead gets, he just delegates some of it to me, so technically not very organised from a structural standpoint. But it’s still good work, and it would be hard to have all your work outlined out for the year in any apprenticeship, as it’s not just university modules.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As much as I need
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The university is ok
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Not really, it’s just another box that’s useful to tick. Some useful things, but a lot of it I guarantee I won’t use again.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there are plenty. Did an Easter egg hunt yesterday around the whole area of London I work within.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Very friendly people, and the work culture here is supportive. Dress code is relaxed, and the company is big enough that you can move around to completely different jobs within the same organisation if you’re trying to find something else.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Visit the building first, and make sure you know what work you are undertaking. Nothing wrong with being forced to learn new things, but the one thing that has put me off a bit is the lack of the type of work I originally intended to do.
