Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I train telecommunications engineers on building and provisioning the Openreach network. That includes practical skills, behavioural courses and health and safety.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoyed elements of the learning but the program provider was poor. Support wasn't great and I'm not sure how competent they were at such a large scale.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned a lot about the practicality of running an L&D organisation and would be equipped to step up into a higher role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The structure is there on reflection - it was just never clear. The trainers seemed misaligned and I don't believe I was ever really set up for success.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My cohort of peers have been great but from an apprenticeship perspective there was no support nor really any need for it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
I had to continuously complain about the length of time it took to mark things and I'm not entirely sure the system we used to measure our work was utilised correctly. Tracking 18 months of work on an Excel doc. also felt very old fashioned and was hard to manage.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think this apprenticeship has helped me outgrow my role as a trainer and levelled me up to a position that I am ready to look for a new role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have a local sports and social club but the sports side of it has never been very busy. The age demographic is improving so this may soon change .

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I like my job, my team and am happy working for Openreach. That being said, this is the first time I have started to look at a life outside of Openreach as opportunities are rare in out current structure.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
The team member pay grades are fair across industry standard. For managers, I'd make sure you know your worth.
