Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work in Project Delivery in Workplace Transformation on the Future Workplace strand. My day varies from working with stakeholders, joining up the elements of a multi-disciplinary team, providing data and insights to senior leadership and phase leading the deployment of sensors to understand how workspaces are used.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy learning the theory behind all of the large projects that I'm involved in and being part of a test and learn environment, developing innovative solutions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I was starting from scratch with absolutely no Project Delivery knowledge behind me so I would say I've learned a great deal about project in the space of time I've been here. I have also achieved qualifications to support my accreditation as a project professional.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well structured and I feel like I have the support required if I need it when it comes to assignment work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The programme is well structured and my employer gives me ample opportunity to apply my skills on a large scale. It makes it easy to find examples of the skills I am building for my portfolio and for my EPA.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The lessons are consistent and well done and usually ensure I have the correct information available at the right time, so that I am in a position to achieve well.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think that it allows me to understand more easily why processes are the way they are. I feel like it has really helped me to understand the different stages of projects and how that can change depending on the reason for the project itself.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, I have a HASSRA subscription and my local hub has sports facilities available. The employer is also linked with the APM and North East project delivery for events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Department for Work and Pensions to a friend?
Yes
Why?
As someone from a teaching background and with an interest in professional development, I would say that DWP does an exceptional job at developing people. The learning offers are strong and development is encouraged to people at all stages of their development. It really feels to me that they invest in their staff, not just because they have to, but because they know that well trained people return that investment.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Department for Work and Pensions?
If you are a career changer and are worried about the jump, just do it! An apprenticeship has opened my eyes to a completely different career and I 100% recommend it.
