Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I am an executive officer within the NW Group Business Support Team. We provide administrative and operational support to the Director, enabling them to focus on strategic decisions and leadership, while protecting and enhancing the NW Group's reputation and brand.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given many responsibilities. I was trusted to source different shadowing opportunities, met with senior employees, sat in on senior meetings, and contributed to important tasks and projects.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I am much more comfortable in my communication and research skills as a result of my role. I am speaking with many different people and different topics which allowed me to hone my communication abilities. My internship project also allowed me to better research government sources.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I was given plenty of support. My line manager allowed me to look for opportunities that would be interesting to me and my career plans and they helped in sourcing some of these opportunities. People were also always happy to meet and provide guidance in whatever I was doing.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have enjoyed my internship greatly. I have met many interesting people and have been afforded the opportunity to partake in many different activities across it with fellow interns and senior figures in DWP and the government as a whole
