Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
Day to day, I work with tools such as Excel, Power BI, and SQL to clean and structure datasets, create dashboards, and identify trends or data quality issues. I also help with producing regular performance reports and assist colleagues by responding to data‑related queries.
Alongside my technical tasks, I’m continually developing my skills through learning modules, coaching sessions, and applying new techniques to real business problems. My role is a balance of hands‑on data work, problem‑solving, and supporting the wider team with insights.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
The programme is stretching me in a positive way — I’m developing technical skills, increasing my confidence, and getting exposure to real data challenges. My team is supportive, and I feel like I’m progressing steadily with clear goals.
Overall, I find the programme rewarding and well‑suited to how I like to learn, and I feel it’s helping me build a strong foundation for my future career in data.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
On the technical side, I’ve strengthened my ability to work with data using tools like Excel, Power BI, and SQL. I’ve learnt how to clean and transform datasets more efficiently, build clearer dashboards, and use data‑driven thinking to support decision‑making. My understanding of data quality, validation techniques, and reporting has also improved significantly.
I’ve also developed key workplace skills such as communication, problem‑solving, planning my workload, and working collaboratively with colleagues. I’m gaining more confidence in explaining data insights to others and asking the right questions when working on tasks.
Overall, I feel like I’m steadily building both my technical foundation and my wider professional skills as I progress through the apprenticeship.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
Communication from the training provider is clear, especially around deadlines, support sessions, and what is required for each part of the programme. I also find that the regular check‑ins help keep me on track and give me space to ask questions or get guidance.
While there are naturally busy periods, the overall structure supports steady progress, and I feel confident that I’m developing the right skills at the right pace.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
Regular check‑ins help keep me on track, and I’m encouraged to develop my skills by getting involved in real projects that build my confidence. I also feel supported in terms of resources, feedback, and having people I can go to when I need clarity on something.
Overall, the support I receive makes a positive difference to my progress and helps me feel more confident in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
My coach is approachable and provides useful guidance during reviews, helping me stay on track with my progress. Whenever I have questions, I’m able to get clarification, and the feedback I receive is constructive and helps me improve.
The regular check‑ins, resources, and availability of support give me confidence in completing my apprenticeship tasks and understanding the skills, knowledge, and behaviours I need to meet the standards.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
The training has helped me improve my confidence in using tools like Excel, Power BI, and SQL, as well as understanding data quality, compliance, and how to communicate insights effectively. This makes my work more accurate and efficient.
Overall, the combination of practical learning, theoretical knowledge, and structured guidance from the training provider has strengthened my ability to contribute to the team and develop as a Data Technician.
