Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

We do 4 placements of 6 months and i have just entered my final placement so haven't scratched the surface yet however I am currently in Market Development and it is a fantastic placement so far as it is going to give me a wide overview of all the different markets, our relationship with them and how we can support and do business with them. On a day to day basis, I am creating stakeholder mapping grids, learning LoB portfolios and understanding where we are currently at in each market.

I have definitely developed a lot of skills during this apprenticeship, developing on people skills, communication and Technology/ IT skills

I think it depends what the team dynamic is like and how you feel best supported but i have felt supported in most of my placements and have felt encouraged by the team I am in.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I definitely think it gives a sense of reassurance that we have obtained a qualification whilst learning the specifics of the business we work at. Gives us the opportunity to make the mistakes now as 'students' and learn from them in an environment where it is ok to do so at this stage in the career.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?

Be patient, it is more about the long term career plan and developing you fully, than rushing to get the experience for the CV or the bigger pay check. Don't be afraid to ask for opportunities, put yourself forward and work hard - the benefits will follow.
