Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In the second year of my Mature Apprenticeship program, my role involves 3-month placements across different technologies at Plant Oxford. On a daily basis, I am required to be embedded within different maintenance teams that work rotating shifts, while I maintain a permanent early shift, 7:00 am-3:30 pm. This means that I get to learn different techniques from different teams on attending production breakdowns, improve my social interaction skills as I work with varied teams and stakeholders, and learn to organise my time efficiently as I keep up with demands from my placement manager, my college work, and family life.
Presently, I am being trained daily to attend to and rectify breakdowns on the assembly line to ensure production uptime. When there isn't a breakdown, I carry out Planned Maintenance tasks on various equipment and sign them off as complete.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The opportunity to learn while working with cutting-edge technologies such as ABB and KUKA robots, AGVs (Assisted Guided Vehicles), and predictive maintenance and digital monitoring tools, amongst others, is really exciting.
From a maintenance point of view, these technologies are used to ensure safe working conditions for the production team, maintain production uptime, and enhance and maintain the quality of the MINI.
Having been in the industry for a while, I found my job satisfaction peaked during this programme. It is a lot of work, but creating value for the business while feeling fulfilled in my role is appealing to me.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I think the program is very well structured and has supported my development by exposing me to different manufacturing and engineering solutions, offering constructive feedback and giving me a chance to take on meaningful responsibilities. Any problems I have was addressed effectively and satisfactorily, and there were several examples of this.
The program effectively supported my development by providing clear instructions, constructive feedback, and opportunities to take on meaningful responsibilities.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is extremely engaged in my performance and well being during this program and are always on hand to help or assist with any problems I have had both professionally and personally.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The college has been very accommodating and patient with me, considering I didn't have any prior engineering background. In my first year, I had various one-on-one discussions that were very supportive, boosted my confidence in the technical workshop, and gave me the belief that it was possible to accomplish my goal of becoming a Maintenance Engineer.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
All the skills I learnt in my first year were directly transferable and immediately applicable in the production workplace. Everything I learnt from material selection, milling and turning, information and data analytics, health and safety, hand fitting, PLC's, electrical and maintenance skills is relevant in real-world scenarios and helps in fulfilment of the role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many opportunities to engage with our Future Talent Charity events and Social events, such as sports competitions like Rounders and football tournaments against other technologies.
