Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Plan, design, run and analyse experiments that aim to test millions of compounds to identify compounds that modulate a target associated with a disease. The data we generate is used as a starting point for chemistry to eventually produce a drug that inhibits/prevents the disease.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme to a large extent. There are many opportunities to develop both professionally and personally. You get to work on real life projects and collaborate with scientists across a wide range of departments.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed many soft skills such as communication, organisation, team work through presentations and project work. I have also developed many scientific skills that I use on a day to day basis.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Structure depends on the department (specific area of science) you are in. You will generally work on projects that the department you are in has. University is more structured in terms of the academic content that you will learn, though not always relevant to the specific department you are in.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Support is always available. Line managers, apprenticeship team, apprentice groups, uni support, etc.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Lots of support from the uni. Can contact tutors easily and they respond in good time. Every 8 weeks there is a 1:1 check in meeting with your line manager and your university success manager. This is where you can discuss progress and ask for further support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
University content is useful to some extent. Most of the content is broad, so it won't directly help you in your job role. You will get better at your job role by learning on the job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Many networking events in office. These are chances for you to showcase your work and connect with industry experts. Many social activities and sports activities.
