Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Role currently involves putting together proof of concepts and putting together documents for various purposes. Usually a day involves attending daily meetings and working on tasks
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme a lot the mix of University and work time is well balanced throughout the year with one day a week dedicated to University Study/ Lectures. Placements often teach a lot about the business and provide good work for development and placement managers are always able to provide support

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Learnt some new business skills such as how to tailor certain information and using certain tools to fulfill my role. Have also learnt valuable data skills and being able to present that data in an informative way.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Overall the programme is well structured with schedules often sent out in advance and the ability to move study days depending on availability
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Support from employer is often very good, placement managers are very helpful and provide constructive feedback and support university studies in any way they can. Regular meetings are often set up with the group to discuss any concerns
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Good support received with dedicated study days and time to attend university and skills coaches in place to help with any queries relating to the degree.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

In some cases I think the modules studied at university are useful especially if you havent acquired some of the knowledge previously. In the majority of cases I dont think they transfer well as often tasks in the role are more complex or differs from the theory taught.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Why?
The employer is very supportive of apprentices offering a wide range of opportunities throughout, whether that be placement opportunities or extra curricular activities. The support in relationship to university activities is great with multiple points of contact should any help be required.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Learn about the core values of BAE Systems and ensure that the apprenticeship your applying to is the one you want to do short term. Else there is ample opportunity to move around after completion
