Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an apprentice Quantity Surveyor, I support the commercial management of construction projects while developing my skills.
Day-to-day, I assist with measuring quantities, preparing cost estimates, valuing work completed, and monitoring project costs. I also help manage subcontractor payments, track variations, and maintain accurate records.
I regularly communicate with site teams and attend meetings to understand project progress and ensure commercial processes run smoothly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme to a great extent, as it provides a good balance between practical site experience and academic learning. It allows me to apply what I learn in real work situations, which helps build my understanding and confidence. While there are challenges, I find the programme rewarding and valuable for my development towards becoming a qualified Quantity Surveyor.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have developed a range of new skills and strengthened existing ones. I have improved my understanding of construction processes, measurement, and cost management. I have also developed my communication and teamwork skills through working with site teams and subcontractors. In addition, my confidence has grown when using industry software and reviewing contracts and project documentation.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is generally well organised and structured, with a clear balance between work-based learning and academic study. The content is relevant to my role, and there is good support from both my employer and training provider. While some periods can feel busy, overall the structure helps me stay on track and continue developing my skills effectively.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer. I am guided by experienced Quantity Surveyors who provide advice, feedback, and help with my development. I am given opportunities to get involved in different tasks and projects, and support is available whenever I have questions or need clarification. This helps me build confidence and progress in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. Tutors are accessible and provide clear guidance on assignments and coursework. There are regular check-ins and feedback sessions to help track progress, and support is available whenever needed to ensure I stay on track and understand the content.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification supports my role well, as it provides the theoretical knowledge behind the tasks I carry out at work. It helps me better understand construction methods, measurement, and contract procedures, allowing me to apply this knowledge in real project situations and improve my performance.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At work, there are also extra-curricular activities available. These include social events, team-building activities, and occasional networking opportunities, which help build relationships within the company and create a positive working environment.
