Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work within the healthcare accounts team, providing accounting and tax support to GP practices and their partners. My role involves preparing annual accounts for GP partnerships, carrying out day‑to‑day bookkeeping using Xero, and ensuring financial records are accurate and up to date. I also complete personal tax returns for individual GP partners, prepare accounts for GP locums, and handle partnership tax returns. On a daily basis, this includes reviewing financial data, liaising with clients and colleagues, resolving queries, and ensuring all reporting and compliance requirements are met.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am really enjoying the programme overall. I like that it offers a mixture of structured learning alongside practical, hands‑on experience, which helps reinforce what I am learning day to day. The programme has allowed me to gain valuable experience within the healthcare accounts team, develop my technical knowledge, and build confidence in applying this in real client situations. I also enjoy the variety of work involved, as it keeps the role engaging and supports my professional development.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed a range of existing skills and learnt new ones throughout the programme. I have strengthened my technical accounting and tax knowledge, particularly in relation to GP partnerships, partnership tax returns and personal tax returns. I have also developed my bookkeeping skills through regular use of Xero, including reviewing transactions, resolving queries and improving data quality. In addition, I have built confidence in managing deadlines, communicating with clients and colleagues, and applying my learning to real‑life scenarios, which has supported both my professional and personal development.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I have clear visibility of when I am due to be in college and what is expected of me at each stage. Deadlines and requirements are communicated clearly, which means I always know what I need to complete and by when. This structure has helped me stay organised, manage my workload effectively, and balance my studies alongside my day‑to‑day role.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer throughout the programme. In addition to the study leave recommended by college, I have been given an extra five days of study leave, which has been extremely helpful. This additional support has made it easier to manage my workload alongside my studies and has allowed me the time needed to prepare effectively and get the most out of the programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The programme offers a variety of teaching methods, including self‑taught online learning, online sessions with a tutor, and in‑person teaching, which suits different learning styles and helps reinforce understanding. There is also an online forum available for any questions relating to the course content or exams, and queries are answered promptly. In addition, tutors are approachable and supportive, offering help via email and being willing to stay after college sessions if additional support is needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that the qualification supports me well in performing my role. The technical knowledge gained through the training provider helps me better understand the work I carry out day to day, particularly in relation to accounts preparation, bookkeeping and tax compliance. What I learn through the qualification can be applied directly to my role, which helps improve the quality of my work and my confidence when dealing with client queries. Overall, the qualification complements my practical experience and supports my development within the role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a wide range of extra‑curricular activities available at work, including various sports clubs and regular social events. I have personally been involved in the running club, which has been a great way to stay active and connect with colleagues outside of day‑to‑day work. In addition, there are monthly social events that help encourage team engagement and build relationships across the firm. I think there could be more emphasis on this to help engagement.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Forvis Mazars to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend it to a friend because it offers a good balance between learning and practical experience. The programme is well structured and supported, allowing you to develop technical skills while applying them in a real working environment. There is strong support from both the employer and the training provider, and the variety of work and opportunities available make it an enjoyable and rewarding experience overall.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Forvis Mazars?
I would recommend taking the time to understand the firm’s values and the service line you are applying for, and being clear about why Forvis Mazars appeals to you specifically. It’s helpful to show an interest in both professional development and gaining practical experience, as the firm places strong emphasis on learning alongside real client work.
When applying, I’d also suggest highlighting your willingness to learn, your ability to manage deadlines, and any experience working in teams or dealing with clients, as these skills are valued. Being yourself during the process and showing enthusiasm for the role and the opportunities available will help your application stand out.
