Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I've been in the role since 2019, I'm completing an apprenticeship alongside my current role.
My role is extremely data heavy, it includes building dashboards, sourcing and analysing raw data and turning this into actionable insight for senior stakeholders. The apprenticeship I'm completing is mostly based on Python, which will help me in my role to be able to build visualisations from larger data sets than excel is capable of handling.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
So far it's been a little slow-moving, but I think it will get more complicated later on. We are right at the start so up to now it's been learning the basics of Python, which has been great, very well explained, very easy to follow.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt the basics of Python, Pandas and Jupyter.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I think the amount of hours required to meet the criteria is too high for the content so far. We're required to do a minimum of 7 hours per week, I think I could have learnt everything I have learnt so far in half that. So I'm scratching around looking for other things I can learn just to put the time in. I think this will change later on once the work becomes more involved and advanced.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
There isn't really any support required other than allowing the time to work on it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I know they are there to help when I need it. They've been very swift at responding to any queries.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I know that it will once I can get Python and Pandas up and running on my machine. So far everything has been done in Jupyter notebooks while we're learnings the basics. I need to find an equivalent of this and be granted access to install it on my work device for when we start project work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I'd recommend first direct to anyone. I feel that if you turn up and do your best you're generally recognised for it. I started here on the phones in 2016, within 18 months I was given the opportunity to get involved with the Business Analysts and Transformation team. On the back of that I got my current role. It's a great place to develop.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
Do your best, learn as much as you can, be curious, ask the stupid questions and be open to opportunities.
