Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My daily responsibilities include running engine beds, creating test scripts, performing engine changes, safety checks including leak tests and fault finding. I also undertake fitting to the test beds including both engines and turbos. Additionally, I spend time adapting the test facility to meet the specific requirements of each task.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my job and have great connections with my colleagues. I also enjoy my tasks and feel I’m on the right track.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I’ve developed a range of new skills and have grown confident in my abilities in my new engineering role. Through hands-on experience and continuous learning, I’ve become competent in managing tasks and applying my knowledge effectively in the workplace.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Our workplace has an excellent training method that really sets it apart. The on-the-job training is structured, thorough, and genuinely helps staff develop their skills quickly and effectively. It’s very hands-on, with supportive supervisors who make sure you feel confident in every task you learn. The workplace environment encourages growth and makes learning feel natural and engaging.
However, the college element of the training can occasionally be a little slack. This isn’t a major issue, but there are times when the external training provider could be more organised or responsive. Despite this, the overall experience is still highly positive, with the workplace training itself being the standout strength.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Whenever I have a question or need support, I can rely on those around me to offer thoughtful and helpful advice. It is reassuring to know that I am surrounded by people who are willing to listen and respond with care. Whether it is a matter of personal concern or a professional challenge, I can turn to anyone and find guidance that is both considerate and constructive. This sense of support gives me confidence, knowing that I will always be met with understanding and practical suggestions to help me move forward.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
During my qualification, I received invaluable support that greatly contributed to my growth and success. Mentors and tutors provided clear guidance, helping me navigate course requirements and understand complex topics. Their encouragement built my confidence and motivated me to persevere. Peers offered collaboration, shared insights, and provided a sense of community. Regular feedback sessions and constructive discussions allowed me to refine my skills and build a deeper understanding of the subject. The resources, including study materials, workshops, and online tools, were instrumental in keeping me on track. The combination of academic support, emotional encouragement, and structured learning opportunities created an environment where I felt supported, ultimately enabling me to achieve my qualification successfully.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualifications may not perfectly match the job’s requirements, but they offer a strong foundation that benefits the organisation. My education and experience have given me transferable skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, adaptability, and effective communication. These enable me to approach challenges from different angles and contribute to team goals.
While my background may not match the technical expertise needed for this role, it offers a complementary advantage: I can bring fresh insights, learn quickly, and connect different areas that improve overall performance. My broad skill set allows me to support various tasks, provide strategic input, and add value beyond the job’s traditional boundaries.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, but not that I’m involved in yet
