Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is mainly lab-based and is focused on supporting drug development. Day-to-day, I attend project meetings, plan and execute lab experiments, and analyse the samples I produced from those experiments using various different pieces of equipment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my apprenticeship because it offers hands-on lab experience that directly contributes to drug development, while giving me structured learning and mentorship to build confidence and independence. The mix of practical experimentation, problem solving, and collaboration in project teams keeps the work engaging, and I appreciate seeing how my data informs real decisions and progresses medicines toward patients.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, during my apprenticeship I’ve both learned new techniques and strengthened core lab skills. I’ve expanded my technical skills (e.g., advanced sample prep, instrument setup/qualification, and troubleshooting), improved data analysis and interpretation, and deepened my understanding of safety and documentation standards. I’ve also developed stronger planning, time management, and collaboration skills through cross‑functional projects and regular presentations in team meetings.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The apprenticeship is well structured, with clear next steps and goals to aim for.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is a large support system provided for each apprentice (manager, mentor and apprentice buddy). There is also lots of support from the apprenticeship team throughout your programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The university are great at providing early information and support regarding your final year project and End Point Assessment. They provide quarterly reviews with a skills coach throughout the apprenticeship to make sure you are on track and help you prepare for your End Point Assessment.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification provides a strong theoretical foundation that directly enhances my day-to-day lab work, linking core principles to practical tasks, improving my experimental design, data interpretation, and understanding of quality expectations. The structured modules, assignments, and feedback from the training provider reinforce good scientific practice and give me transferable skills (analysis, documentation, and communication) that make me more effective and confident in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There is an apprentice social society which arrange monthly socials. They are also many sports teams and annual sports tournaments that you can get involved with.
