3.4/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
This depends on the placement - some placements provided real responsibilities and fulfilling work, others did not
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Interesting, fulfilling work (I'm in my exit role), good work culture, well paid

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Pretty much everything I do

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I found it to be pretty good - some lack of planning and leaving things until the last minute but we were given a roadmap right from the beginning. Worth noting that the structure of the course has changed for new apprentices and I don't know how well that's going for them
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Pretty much everything I need
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Blackpool and the Fylde College did not provide great education - the quality of the teaching was overall poor (with a couple of exceptions), the planning was poor and communication was hit or miss.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It has given me the knowledge I needed to feel confident to lead, but very little of my knowledge that I got from the university actually applies to my day-to-day role
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Some networking events and STEM outreach, as well as some social events. I have taken advantage of these events but you actively have to seek them out

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is enjoyable, fulfilling, important work in a supportive environment with a great salary and excellent work culture
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Make sure you know what it is the business actually does - be well informed, enthusiastic and when it's time to interview, be able to talk about both the company and relevant experience (both in a professional context and personal context, like building drones or 3D printing as a hobby)
