Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Throughout the technical apprenticeship, I rotate around all of the engineering departments and get exposure to each area, working on projects and learning from each team. This allows me to gauge what I enjoy most, before choosing my final placement at the end of year 3.
Day to day varies depending on the placement, but can be anything from doing CAD drawings to supporting the line or getting hands on with machines.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Overall, I enjoy the apprenticeship programme as it allows me to work with lots of different teams and build relationships with people across the company. I enjoy learning about all of the different departments and the apprenticeship is structured for me to find what I enjoy most before I choose what direction I want to go in.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I've learned lots of new skills throughout my time in different areas and built on existing skills. For example, I have learned and developed my drawing skills, mechanical and electrical, and I'm constantly building on this by working on new projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme runs on a placement rota so we know where we will be at any given point within the 4 years.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Each year group has a mentor who we have regular review meetings with. We also have an apprentice lead who provides support if needed. Additionally, we have a department contact for each placement so that we have support wherever we are.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Support from our current training provider is hit and miss. They can be okay, but generally require a push to get anything sorted. We have tripartite reviews with our work mentor and university mentor, but any issues raised are typically forgotten about from the uni side.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
So far, I've found that it hasn't supported me much within my role at work. Much of the uni learning is theoretical and doesn't necessarily align with what I do at work. I think it would be more beneficial to follow a HNC, HND route as it's typically more closely aligned to industry.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Cummins offer networking events as well as occasional coach trips on weekends to different cities.
