Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As an IT apprentice, my role is to support the organisation’s technology systems while developing my skills and knowledge in the field. I work as part of the IT team to ensure that systems run smoothly and that users receive the support they need.
On a day-to-day basis, my responsibilities include assisting with technical support, such as troubleshooting hardware and software issues, setting up devices, and helping users resolve IT-related problems. I may also be involved in installing and configuring systems, carrying out routine maintenance, and ensuring that equipment is functioning correctly.
In addition, I support tasks like monitoring systems, maintaining records, and following security procedures to help protect company data. As part of my learning, I regularly work alongside experienced colleagues, gaining hands-on experience and building my understanding of different technologies, tools, and processes.
Overall, my role involves a combination of practical support and continuous learning, helping me develop the skills required for a successful career in IT.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme to a great extent, as it gives me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while also developing my technical knowledge. Being able to learn in a real working environment has helped me understand how IT systems are used in practice, which I find much more engaging than just classroom learning.
I particularly enjoy the problem-solving aspect of the role, such as troubleshooting issues and helping users, as it allows me to apply what I’ve learned and see immediate results. I also like that no two days are the same, as I’m constantly learning new skills and facing different challenges.
While some aspects can be challenging, especially when dealing with unfamiliar systems or complex issues, I see this as a positive because it helps me grow and build confidence. Overall, I find the programme both enjoyable and rewarding, and it has strengthened my interest in pursuing a career in IT.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have learnt new skills and developed existing ones during my programme. I’ve improved my technical skills, especially in troubleshooting, setting up devices, and using IT systems.
I’ve also developed my problem-solving and communication skills by helping users and explaining technical issues clearly. Overall, I feel more confident working in an IT environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is well organised and structured, with a good balance between practical work and learning. I have clear tasks and responsibilities in my role, alongside structured training that supports my development.
There is regular guidance and support from colleagues and tutors, which helps me stay on track. Overall, the structure makes it easier to build my skills and progress confidently.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer. My colleagues and supervisors are approachable and willing to help when I have questions or need guidance.
I’m given regular feedback and support with my learning, which helps me improve my skills and build confidence in my role. Overall, I feel well supported throughout my programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. They provide clear guidance on assignments and expectations, as well as regular check-ins to track my progress.
If I need help, they are available to answer questions and offer support, which helps me stay on track and complete my work confidently.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualification helps me perform better in my role to a good extent. The knowledge I gain through my training supports the tasks I carry out at work, especially when dealing with technical issues and understanding systems.
It also helps reinforce what I learn on the job, making me more confident and effective in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There aren’t many extra-curricular activities available; however, the Women’s Network team has helped encourage socialising by organising certain activities, such as crocheting sessions. These provide a good opportunity to connect with colleagues in a more relaxed environment.
