Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Supporting staff and managers with employee relations cases, managing my own cases, providing policy advice, liasing with other core departments such as IT and facilities to support staff, conducting inductions and other related employee engagement initiaties.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I love my job and have supportive colleagues that encourage me to develop my role's associated KSB's.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a plethora of foundational HR skills that will be extremely beneficial for future roles. I have also developed my existing skills and realised they weren't as strong as I initially believed. My colleagues have supported my development and continue to do so every single day.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well organised with flexibility in how I choose to make use of my OTJ hours each week. I am aware of what is required of me in terms of future modules, assignments and apprenticeship activities.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

A lot! They have supported me in terms of funding my CIPD qualification that I have been studying towards in tandem with my apprenticeship activities. My managers and colleagues understand that my programme is my priority and support me in every aspect, ensuring I am not too overwhelmed with work that I struggle to complete my programme activities.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a lot of support. My training coaches are always available when I reach out with queries and provide support and helpful feedback during our programme reviews.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I apply my learning to my role everyday, particularly when the course content is relevant to my specific job duties. I also map my working experiences onto my different learning activities for submission. We are strongly encouraged to reflect this was as it will support our STARR responses for our Professional Discussion.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many networking events. Our engagement officer is amazing at coordinating events and webinars for staff to join and take part in. This has facilitated my ability to build and develop my stakeholder relationships.

Why?
GBS are an inclusive employer with fantastic management. There are apprentices in almost every department with many being retained at the end of their programme.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Global Banking School?
In terms of applying for an apprenticeship, I would recommend doing your research on the organisation and our values and mission. I would also recommend simply being yourself and showing a genuine interest in the department. Apprenticeships are the perfect stepping stone for the beginning of your career so being able to demonstrate you are committed to going further will take you far!
