Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

as an electrical maintenance apprentice we work on the electrical panel of machinery as well as do any preventitive maintenance that is outstanding. we work with everyone in the maintenance team and learn from them on a day to day basis to gain an understanding of the machines electrical bias and how to interpret the documentation that goes along with that
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

i enjoy the program our training provider TDR is great for communicating, the requirements for your course and how you can meet them. they are great for tracking progress and keeping line managers in the loop. i enjoy the program as it is something different to learn everyday and the team here at washington is great eveyone is inclkusove of thoughts and personal opinions

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i have learnt a variety of different skills while being at washington on a full time basis, i have been put through many different training courses from abrasive wheels, ipath, and a safety maturity matrix to develop new skills and meet new people within the business

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

the program we follow is well structured the first year you are full time at college working towards your level 2 and then in the second year you are on day release but you are in you department for a full 6 months just settling in and getting to know the team before you start rotating round the business
How much support do you receive from your employer?

we revcieve amazing support from our employer especially the line managers within the organisation as tehy do whatever they can to assist you with the matter at hand as well as they attend all review meeting with the training provider so they can gauge your progress and plan for what comes next
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
the training provider TDR is amazing as we have communication with our training officer whenever it is needed, from asking a simple question to planning the next face to face meeting so you can ask for help. the training officers come in on a monthly basis to assist us and update us on our progress for our apprenticeships
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

i feel as though the qualification we are wrking towards (NVQ L3 in maintenance and operations) applies to my role really well as i get to develop new skills from the course as well as gain new knowledge form the people around me and put that into practice on a daily basis
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

the culture is amazing here and the staff are friendly and willing to help you can go to anyone even if it is not your line manager and they will help you.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
if you get through to the interview process just be yourself and answer the questions honestly and respectfully, carry yourself with dignity and self respect
