Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Can be heavily desk based. Very different to what 'Engineering' is in college, high schools and other apprenticeships.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Some days are better than others but placements are vetted poorly and most people don't have any work to give to apprentices. End up sat waiting for a job sometimes.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Multiple ways of learning new and developing existing skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Some staff members will tell you something that contradicts someone else. Ask around before committing to something.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Plenty of support available for Mental & Physical Health. Support for placements and Level 3 work (college) varies depending on what staff members are in your chain of command.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Varies depending on who is delivering training.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No, any events such as the above were arranged exclusively by apprentices and sometimes discouraged by staff. There could be networking events 1-2 times per year depending where your office location is.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Straight forward to get into if you've had any involvement in engineering before. Good stepping stone for a career in 'engineering'. Not recommended for everyone but there are other courses available that should definitely get looked at too.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Apply for a manufacturing role if your idea of 'engineering' or 'technician' is hands on. These roles are not hands on and are mainly desk/office based.
