Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I assist with all histology practices usually in the area of cut up booking in specimens and assisting with cut up with a pathologist. I embed tissue and cut sections using a microtome as well as analyser maintenance and creating stain kits
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy learning and working at the same time it means stuff I don’t understand in work often gets explained to me through uni but also I am able to better grasp my learning at uni by applying it to real working practice

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Both I’ve work in a haematology veterinary lab prior to this and the breadth of skills I have learned in a completely different field with completely different species has been fascinating and also helps me bring overall big clinical picture to all the dicaplins

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
One day a week is spent as study time sometimes this is at university or self based study I then have a training officer in work who organises my training to grow in the work place
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Protected study time and a set training plan
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The training in work is only about work some flexibility would be nice in down times extra time to study as a lot of degree apprentices have to do a lot of work at home regardless of one day study thinks very difficult when a lot of time is spent commuting to and from work
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Although not all learning through the degree is necessary for my current role the focus is to learn at this level and once qualified able to move up in the team this is more beneficial because I have learned how to work while earning the degree leaving with a lot of experience that a normal degree wouldn’t allow
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Not that I am aware of
