Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is to help keep my site and its equipment working safely and efficiently. I support qualified engineers and technicians with maintenance and repairs while learning on the job as part of my apprenticeship.
On day-day basis, I help fix faults and breakdowns while following health and safety rules. I also support my team with both reactive and planned preventive maintenances. My mentor gets me to shadow every contractor or engineer that comes to do any work on my site. This helps me understand the systems better, and know what to look out for during my daily walk around checks. No day is the same!
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I do not just enjoy my programme, I love it. I truly cannot get enough. Only a few months in this programme, and I already can tell that the sky will be my limit once I become fully qualified. This programme is the best thing that has happened to me in decades!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Every day here at work is a learning opportunity. My mentor uses even the smallest repairs and fault‑finding jobs to teach me valuable skills. Since joining CBRE and this programme, I have developed strong problem solving and safety awareness skills. I only used to read about risk assessments, but now I apply them in everything I do, even at home. This programme, and my mentor have made me far more safety‑conscious than I ever expected. I have also gained good hands‑on experience with basic maintenance tasks, and using both hand tools and electric power tools.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well organised, and clearly structured. I am given clear goals, regular support, and the right balance between hands‑on work and learning. I can confidently say that the structure of the programme makes learning practical, consistent and effective.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My mentor ensures that tasks are planned to build my skills step by step, rather than being overwhelming. He has even set up a WhatsApp group with the mobile technicians to give me more exposure and help me learn new skills from a wider team. The level of support I receive from my employer, right from the top is excellent. I receive timely check-ins from the managers and HR team, and help is never far away when I need it. What I value most is that the entire team provides me guidance and feedback, so I am never left behind when my mentor is away. This consistent support helps me understand what I am doing and why, and it gives me the confidence to improve and perform better in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I get good support from my training provider while working towards my qualification. They explain what I need to do clearly, check in with me regularly, and give helpful feedbacks on my works. Support is easy to access if, and when I need help or don’t understand something. My teachers are all very approachable, and this makes it easier to manage my studies alongside my job.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification helps me perform better in my role by giving me a clearer understanding of the work I do, every day. What I learn through my training provider supports what I do on site, and helps things make more sense in practice. It has improved my confidence, problem‑solving ability, and awareness of safety. These upskills allows me to work more effectively, and better understand why tasks are done in certain ways.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are opportunities to get involved in extra activities at work. These include informal team social activities and opportunities to network with colleagues across different sites and roles. There is a good team atmosphere, and opportunities to connect with others beyond day-day tasks. We have had a few team day out with my direct team as well as a wider three days team bonding exercise at the Lake District. Opportunities are endless.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CBRE Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
My apprenticeship at CBRE has been nothing short of exceptional. Right from day one, I have been welcomed with genuine enthusiasm and supported by a team that truly believes in cross fertilisation of skills. The positivity here is real, everyone is genuinely happy to have me on board which has made me wonder what I was doing for the past 20 years. I honestly wish I had joined CBRE sooner, but I am grateful to be here now. I feel ready to shine with such incredible people around me. In all honesty, CBRE is by far the best employer I have had, and I am excited for everything ahead.

My advice to anyone applying to CBRE would be to come in with a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. Opportunities are endless, here and the sky will be your limit. CBRE values people who take safety seriously, work well as part of a team, and are keen to develop their skills. I will say, be open to asking questions, listen to experienced colleagues, and take feedbacks onboard, and you will definitely realise your full potentials. Showing commitment, reliability and a genuine interest in your role, and the company will also go a long way. CBRE values people who are ready, and willing to live up to our values of Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence.
