Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am an apprentice project manager who completes project administration jobs for the PM and APM on the projects. Further to this I have been tasked with finding ways to improve working for tasks such as actual reviews and resourcing.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love the fact that I am studying and working at the same time. I am able to apply what I am learning at university and PMQ sessions in my role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, a lot of new skills. This is a second career for me so project management is a whole new list of skills, but I'm also able to adapt many of my soft skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The structure is very good. I think the connection with the university is what lets the programme down. For example, we are currently studying for our PMQ on top of university and this adding to a lot of apprentices stress. The university don't sound as though they are aware of this and the people running the PMQ sessions don't sound as though they are aware of the university time table. A closer working relationship would be of a benefit going forward so that all of the providers are able to see the bigger picture of what we are being asked to do across the year.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The support I receive is great as I am able to speak to people within early careers, function and my placement; i have a person to speak to no matter what my issue or concern is.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Again it doesn't come across that there is a close working relationship between the university and the employer. They want us to do well and if you reach out they attempt to help, but we need to reach out and ask for this help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
This is great and I like to be able to let my placement manager know what I am working on at university so that I can apply this in my placement.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
yes, I am involved in the apprenticeship council for my business unit. There are stretch assignments and sporting opportunities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great employer and the experience is within a large, global company. Further to this, it is a degree apprenticeship which comes with the credentials of completing that.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
BE yourself. BAE Systems is looking for people who fit the company behaviours, they are not looking for people who fit a mould.
