Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a Security Systems Apprentice, you help engineers install and maintain CCTV, alarms, and access control systems. My day involves travelling to sites, running cables, fitting devices, doing simple tests, and learning to fix basic faults.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my role as a Security Systems Apprentice because I get to work hands‑on with CCTV, alarms, and access control systems while learning something new every day. I like being on-site, helping install and troubleshoot equipment, and developing practical skills that make me more confident and capable in the job.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
My role as a Security Systems Apprentice has helped me develop a range of new skills, including practical hands‑on abilities like running cables, wiring devices, and setting up CCTV and alarm equipment. I’ve also improved my problem‑solving skills through fault‑finding, gained a better understanding of basic networking, and built confidence in communicating with engineers and customers. Alongside this, the job has strengthened my time management as I plan tasks and work across different sites each day.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The apprenticeship is well structured with a week long block multiple times throughout the year to ensure what you are doing at work you understand and learn why you are doing it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The support from the employer is very good they are willing to put in the time to ensure you are properly trained either through you shadowing your manager or through training courses they will happily send you on.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
You receive a lot of support when working towards your qualifications, my manager always asks about my week at college and sits down with me and is willing to offer to explain anything that I wasn't quite sure on whilst away
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It helps compared to going to uni as your working day to day so you are also learning how to work in a corporate environment and get you better equipped to go out into the wider job market and show off the experience you've gained whilst doing the qualification
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Christie's has drinks every so often called 501 and it'll be an evening where all the staff gather and enjoy the company of their colleges and where you can pick the brains of professionals who have been in your field of work and really get to grips of how its like working, as well as networking with various other sides of the company.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Christie's to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I’d recommend my workplace to a friend because it’s a supportive and hands‑on environment where you learn real skills every day. The team is helpful, the work is varied, and you get the chance to grow your knowledge while being trusted with meaningful tasks. It’s a place where you feel valued, progress quickly, and genuinely enjoy coming in because no two days are the same.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Christie's?
If someone is applying to Christie’s, I’d tell them to be confident, show genuine interest in the work, and be ready to learn. It helps to highlight any hands‑on experience, problem‑solving skills, and willingness to get stuck in with practical tasks. Being positive, asking questions, and showing you can work well in a team will go a long way. Most importantly, be yourself and show that you’re motivated and ready to take on new challenges.
