Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role varies on a day to day basis, and also varies depending on my placement.
Typically the umbrella tasks that I complete include assisting with projects (monitoring and managing stakeholders), assisting with the collation of packs for reviews, networking with a range of stakeholders within the business to chase inputs, creating calendars for review cycles, facilitating and organising meetings for senior stakeholders, identifying requirements and being pro-active with tasks and much much more!
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme that I am on, I believe that the diversity in tasks and areas provides me with a wealth of knowledge around not only BAE Systems, but also how business works in general.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since starting my apprenticeship at BAE, I have massively developed my confidence and people skills. I used to really struggle when speaking to audiences of any size, but since working at the company and receiving opportunities to develop this, I have seen a huge difference in my abilities in this area.
I have also developed my IT skills, I only ever understood how to use basic IT toolsets, however, working for a company that uses a range of applications, I have really progressed in this area. The business have also provided multiple training opportunities to allow us to develop these skills, amongst many others.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I think that the programme is structured well. I feel as though the timings of assignments, reviews and additional apprentice activities tie in well in terms of timeframes with placement moves and requirements.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support at BAE is unmatched. As apprentices we are extremely supported from every angle, from support from our skills coaches, placement managers, colleagues to even senior stakeholders in the business who offer support and development opportunities.
In every job that I have had, I believe that I have never quite received the level of support that i have since my very first day at BAE Systems.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Same as above, the level of support is honestly unheard of. We are pushed to be our best, whilst also receiving help when we may feel out of our depth. Our skills coaches do everything they can to ensure that we are prepared for all of our upcoming assessments, and also continuously through assignment periods etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think it provides us with the base knowledge of business, educating us on how things fit together and how business itself works. BAE has it's own way of doing things and this is highlighted when we are in college days, the skills coaches try their best to put things into BAE context. We learn the basic concepts of project management and we have recently completed our own projects, to make us familiar with project management tools and processes, allowing us to apply this knowledge to our roles.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are thousands of what we call 'stretch-projects' to get involved with! We are always contacted about extra opportunities, there are choirs, running clubs, stretch-projects, the STEM team, inspiring women network, other networks, motor-sport projects and much much much more!!!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Honestly? I love it at BAE Systems. I came from the NHS and my work-life balance has improved drastically! I knew that BAE was known as a good employer to work for, yet I never quite understood the extent of this until I started here and now it all makes sense. The opportunities, support, motivation and benefits that you receive at BAE Systems are second to none, I have made great connections, friendships and strengthened my knowledge in so many areas and I cannot wait to continue pursuing my career in the company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be yourself! You don't need to be the highest of achievers or an engineering whiz to work here, just integrity, motivation and self-belief! I never believed I was 'good-enough' to work here, yet I have never been made to feel more worthy of a job before. Don't put off applying out of fear of rejection, there is a role for everyone here, no matter your interests.
Be honest, show off your current skills, think about how you want to develop and good luck!
