I work in the Business Development function and have worked in multiple roles. I have supported and led site visits and UK based events, been in market research and competitive intelligence roles and managed Business operations toolset.
Day to day is very varied with no two days being the same. In general each morning emails and calendar will dictate my day.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find the workat BAE exciting and interesting. You are working on mutli-billion pound contracts and apprentices are given real responsibilities that pay a key part in the successful outcome of the company's goals.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Over the apprenticeship I've developed more soft skills such as communication, organisational specific skills such as stakeholder mapping and portfolio knowledge as well as key business skills and processes.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Support is good, with regular check ins from placement managers, the wider function and early careers. Finding out about new placements can be quite short notice but in general I feel I have alot of support within the business.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Lots of support from the team and management with a strong emphasis on creating opportunities, wellbeing and apprenticeship support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We have regular college days and learner Progress Reviews to monitor the placement. Lots of learning resources are available to support learning.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel the level 3 qualification give me a strong foundation of the basics that then is enriched by my placement work,

BAE Systems is an exciting environment that really cares about its workforce. There are lots of opportunities for travel and work on big projects that may last decades and have a major impact on the UK's defence. The company works hard to provide a range of benefits to its workers and its clear that you are seen as a valuable resource to be invested in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Focus on behaviours and do some research into the company and its products. The company wants people who have the right behaviours to excel, skills and knowledge can be developed over time. Look at the company's mission statement and show you have an understanding of BAE's goals.
Take care to budget as the starting pay is low but regular 6 month pay rises fix it pretty fast.
