Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
• Working with senior engineers during requirements analysis – converting operational needs into technical requirements specifications.
• Contributing to design of high level software architectures.
• Develop software according to requirements and department processes.
• Supporting implementation teams throughout development, testing, and system acceptance phases.
• Supporting Integration & Test team during formal test phases.
• Supporting technical investigations of problems raised against the operational systems.
• Producing, collecting and reporting appropriate metrics showing progress.
• Using Metrics to guide decisions and for management reporting.
• The candidate will be exposed to several disciplines (Systems, Software Engineering, Integration & Test, and Infrastructure) during the placement, and will work on all stages of the Software Development Lifecycle.

At the start not much responsibility was given on to me, but gradually I am getting tasks to do and technology to learn.

I was given quite a bit, being able to talk to me team lead and my manager for any support as well as having a mentor who gives advice on how to make the most of the placement.

The atmosphere is very corporate so you will be needed to generally be acting professional but co-workers are polite and nice to work with.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
So far, I have enjoyed it quite a lot especially compared to University, The corporate atmosphere might be better for some but would have liked something a bit more relaxed personally. The work given is stimulating and structure is great. Although coming in with not much knowledge of the company made it harder to understand the structure and how things work at the start.

Do your background research on the company try to learn more about the innerworkings or anything to prepare for your role. Also make sure you are better equipped communication-wise and not just for the skills needed for the role.
