Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Stakeholder management, project management reviews and governance, engaging with suppliers, looking at strategic focus of the business, driving delivery of the product.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The balance of placement and University is challenging but well managed by the business, with understanding the time management required. The university course is relatively new therefore improvements are made regularly

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am confident when I exist my role I will be a very competent project manager, I have learnt the theory and developed the lessons in the workplace to practise the skills. Regular rotation of placement allows a greater depth of learning experiences

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

There are some clashes in workload with in placement and university requirements, this need some adaptions to be balanced. The University are aware of this and improving communication to avoid this in the future.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Support of placement LM and the surrounding team, a skills coach and leadership support through mentoring and one to one engagement with functional leads
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

University are very attentive to needs and continually request feedback, whilst it is slow to be implemented they are listening and therefore support us. We are able to arrange time with lecturers to receive feedback in more detail and access to UOC resources
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

In my third year of University now and completing my PMQ the lessons I learn now start to feel repetitive although in greater critical analysis now. I am able to take the lessons into the workplace though and challenge theories
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are regular sports and socials events out of the office and within the office there is regular networking activities.

Why?
It is an engaging programme with many opportunities to learn, you gain from the effort you put in and seek out. The degree support is great, and the travel opportunities unique to the business especially as an apprentice.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Study the company website, be aware of current news and contracts. Be yourself and show your personality, ask questions that challenge the interviewer to show critical thinking and your willingness to learn. Big on curiosity.
