Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On a day to day basis I handle client enquiries through the general phone lines, via Christie’s Information email and through LiveChat. I respond to a wide range of enquiries and specifically handle bidding enquiries close to sale days, assisting with registrations. My team also cover front of house and I tend to cover this task area. My role requires updated knowledge regarding gallery viewings, sale dates, specialist contacts and general knowledge surrounding artists and Christie’s art departments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my role and my apprenticeship programme because working for Christie’s exposes you to record breaking artworks, as well as access to exclusive auctions, surrounded by wonderful talented individuals. Everyday I learn more about the artworks surrounding us and the history behind our collection sales.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed the ability to manage my time and workload in an office setting, being in a professional establishment. I have also gained so much knowledge surrounding the current art market including trends, target audiences, relevant artists and specific details around the origin of artworks. As my knowledge is constantly evolving I would mark my skills as 4* as I always feel like I am learning on the job.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I received 2 weeks of training when I joined my team with each team member on different task areas. It was very well structured and allowed me to ease into my role and learn what was necessary!
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My apprentice coach and my manager are both great, we have regular meetings and are constantly discussing my next steps and how to improve in both my role and my apprenticeship programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider is always available to message or contact with any queries and always answers quickly .
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I learn lots of general knowledge including communication within a team, project management and time management which all help me with administration tasks within my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have apprentice social events every 3 months, Christie’s also has society’s which you can partake in to better the company, they also host late night events and frequently offer overtime to apprentices.
