Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Working on both team and individual projects. These would usually be smaller, non client projects (such as creating an excel template, or basic data cleansing and analysis work). Largely based in excel and occasionally company specific tools like remetrica. Involved in a couple of presentation based projects using powerpoint. There was a roughly even split between group and individual work
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
A moderate amount of responsibility. Not working on client projects, but I was working to develop tools/databases that the Actuarial team could make use of on a regular basis

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Friendly and welcoming. Everyone seemed hardworking and collaborative. Fairly flat structure - the managers all seemed very approachable, and you were able to talk to and network with people in other service lines and departments. Overall, fantastic company culture. Great focus on diversity. Could have a more wellbeing centric approach, but there were some systems in place to utilise. Free starbucks coffees were a great perk!

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed it. I occasionally found it slightly stressful, as the work/technology could be frustrating, and I had a long commute. 9-5 working pattern is a big adjustment from university. Some of the projects were slightly outside of the skill range I could reasonably be expected to have, but the challenge was good

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Aon
Be friendly in the interview. Definitely only apply if you have good numerical skills, as you will be wrangling data all day! This skill is also essential to the application process. If you get the position, ask everyone lots of questions and be involved with as many training opportunities, meetings and projects as you possibly can
