Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I had a good structure to this 8 week internship: one week with the account manager support, one week with the individual banking managers and one week with the corporate banking manager. Along with this I was given my own individual tasks to help the branch out and I had to do a presentation with fellow interns on the topic of diversity.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was allowed to do all the different functions within the branch for the 8 week period that I was in the bank. I felt as though I was contributing and making an impact on the branch function and helping speed up processes.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt a lot from this internship, such as how a bank functions and all the parts required for this and also general knowledge for life, such as how mortgages work and how much work goes into a mortgage.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I receive lots of support, everyone was so friendly and happy to help if I had any questions. Even people from different departments from within the branch and the deputy CEO were all more than willing to answer any questions the interns had on all the calls we went on.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very inclusive and friendly and I felt like I was included into the team within the first week. The culture of the company really stands out as a customer focused bank rather than a profit based bank.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed this internship as I feel like I have gained lots of knowledge about the banking industry and I felt included in all tasks and meetings. I was also told that if I wanted a job within this company that my branch manager would put a good reference in for me.

What advice would you give to others applying to Handelsbanken
Be ready to work for 8 weeks and get involved with everything. Ask lots of questions and ask people if you can go to different customer meetings/ see different departments/ branches within the bank. You have to make the most of the opportunity and use it as a chance to network and speak to other interns.
