Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Whether working on dashboards or web based applications I am involved in design and implementation. This could be building prototypes, developing templates and standards or sometimes the odd bit of logo design. All of this work is completed for other teams or working with any of the self service analysts who product dashboards themselves
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Currently being midway through my first year, I'm finding that a lot of the content delivered is covered in the pre-reading or my existing remit of knowledge - however, I understand that the degree apprenticeship starting at level 4 means that the starting level is very foundational - as a result I'm sure I will find myself more challenged throughout the remainder of the course and regardless, am enjoying the improvements being made to my research and presentation skills which can help me advocate for myself and my work

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
In work I have developed a fair amount in Power BI (to implement designs), Figma and some web development tools. Alternatively, university is pushing my writing, presentation and general communication skills

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The dates are regular and the timetable fairly well managed, but there have been some miscommunications around when content should be delivered by ahead of assessment support or personal circumstances leading to some sessions being delivered remote despite the cohort travelling to the campus in Manchester
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
With events in a shared calendar there is very much a high level of trust and being left to it (in a positive way) - and, should you need additional support at any point I find that I've been able to ask for it
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Similar to support from my employer, the support is available but rarely given without approach - tutors will check in each sprint and ask if there are any questions or concerns around assessments - but beyond that an email to whomever and you will be provided with support and resources without hesitation
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The practical workshops and skills developed through the assignments have proved useful, as well as content having crossover to work tasks e.g. developing accessibility standards or running user interviews and user tests
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are plenty of volunteering opportunities as well as social sports such as 5-a-side football, teams will also have somewhat regular team days and celebrations together around Christmas or even at the end of a substantial project

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Thales to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There is a great level of support and accommodation for everyone in their role, as well as good opportunities for internal mobility for those wishing to continue to grow or try something new
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Thales?
Be true to yourself and ask questions - remember you're looking for the business to be a good fit for you as well as the business looking for you to be a good fit for them
