Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role as Client Strategy Apprentice involves me putting together the Programming Deck for Tuesday's meeting which is a weekly meeting in which we discuss upcoming events that Christie's are considering putting on throughout EMEA, and if we are willing to budget these events. Aside from this, I am also in charge of regularly putting together our Events Calendar and sending out a monthly Events Calendar with all the confirmed EMEA events in that month. I also help to manage the museum passes and regularly update the museum exhibition list of all EMEA exhibitions. In addition this, I am tasked with going onto our internal client system and analysing and pulling data to see how many clients attended, how many clients bid and so on. Once it is confirmed that all the information for each event is correct, I can close it off on our system.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my apprenticeship a fair amount. I am completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration. The way in which the apprenticeship is structured is that you are given online textbooks and videos which contain all the information needed to achieve a high grade in the apprenticeship. In the first few months you meet with your coach every month and present that months Portfolio Task which is a Powerpoint outlining a specific section of the Business Admin course. In addition to this, there are monthly online workshops that you will complete with others in your course. About halfway through the apprenticeship you are told to come up with a project that will improve the speed of the work at Christie's and you must then complete whatever it is that you have decided on. Every apprentice at Christie's is given a day each week to work on their apprenticeship that is typically done from home.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Excel is primarily used for most tasks so my abilities within that have greatly developed. When it comes to our internal systems, I have also learnt a great amount about how to use these and how to manage client data. Part of my role involves researching clients and writing about them. I feel that doing this has greatly improved my written communication and composition skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very organised as within my department there is a focus on deadlines and clear communication, and likewise within my apprenticeship course.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Christie's strongly supports me in my role as everything that I need to do is made clear and my boss is always willing to answer any questions that I may still have, and likewise with my overall department.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider gives me immense support as not only do I have monthly one on one sessions with my coach as well as group workshops, but if I ever need additional assistance my coach is happy to meet with me more then once a month. The tasks are laid out clearly for me within my course and there is plenty of time to complete each task.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My qualification is more of a general focus on how businesses operate, as opposed to something specifically centered around the industry that I work in. I feel that the concepts which I am learning do help me to understand the business world in a deeper manner and that parts of this can be transposed to my role but not the majority of what I learn. What I am learning is very important information that I feel will definitely aid me in both my exams and in the general future, but the aspects of it that directly connect to my role are more to do with things like confidence when it comes to presenting as opposed to actual content connecting to my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are apprentice networking events and Christie's internal events and activities. Our apprentice cohort also has occasional events that are planned for us.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Christie's to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is an excellent opportunity to enter the art and luxury industry and see how everything operates. There are countless departments within the company and they all specialise in niche aspects of the market, from more corporate and general department to very art focused ones. Even if you are not particularly interested in art, being here is incredible because you are learning about how an industry functions internally and these are largely transferable skills. Coming straight of school and immediately being part of a global conglomerate such as this is not an opportunity that you should turn down even if you are unsure about what you want to do long term.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Christie's?
Look at all the different departments that are on offer and try to find one that seems to align best with your skill set and interests. Each department will help to teach you the skills that you need to succeed within your specific role so do not be worried about not knowing the exact way to do things initially. The Recruitment team is very supportive so do not be nervous.
